Was loyal Europcar customer – NEVER again after this

1. In order to complete the vehicle hire (in advance) I was forced to agree to and pay for charges which would otherwise be unacceptable: a total of THREE extra charges, one of which was a hidden charge added at the last checkout page in small type and not openly advertised or notified.
2. What is the point of having a Europcar check-in and car collection desk at the DEPARTURES terminal of an airport. This is the silly arrangement at Jersey, so that arriving customers have the inconvenience and hassle of getting to another part of the airport with baggage and belongings just to find the Europcar desk, let alone collect the vehicle

Health and safety issues ignored

I am writing this review after having written to Europcar a few days and gotten no reply. We rented out a car from Europcar in Italy in the morning. At night we realized that the headlamp on the driver's side did not work, as we were basically driving in very little light. This means that we could have easily bern involved in an accident due to poor lighting. We contacted Europcar and were told to take our car back to the airport (2hrs away) to have it towed and replaced. This was ridiculous, since we would have wasted a whole day. In the end we just had it replaced, obviously incurring expenses and wasting time. Another health and safety hazard was that the fuel gauge dis not work. This meant that when we paid money to refill a tank which was supposedly almost empty, we wasted a substantial amount of money because the tank was indeed almost full. The owner of the petrol station was not there, so we could not get refunded.
Apart from the waste of time money, Europcar, you should be ashamed of yourselves for not checking cars before you rent them out.

I recommend Europcar

I recommend Europcar, Brisbane - Australia.They are very helpful. The GPS I got was old and not updated, I got the money back when I complained. I made a damage on the car - at first they also wanted me to pay for som other damages, that I did not make. When I complained, they listened to me and made it correct. So I only got to pay for my actual damage (with my insurance company)

I recommend not to use Europcar while…

I recommend not to use Europcar while you are in Germany. The company is filled with crooks. They will put unauthorized charges and charge for anything and you will never get your deposit back. This company can never operate this way in the US. Numerous of my co-workers have the same experience of the company's fraudulent charges. Try this company when you get to Germany. You will regret it

CROOKS, Worst Rental Company

Made rental reservations for Fox Rent A Car (Guayaquil Ecuador Airport)on the Expedia site, Fox car rental is owned by Europcar. The main reason I picked this company is it offered unlimited miles, I even showed them this when I picked up the car and paid at the airport. When I returned the car they tell me that I owe $430 for going over the miles as its not unlimited. I asked for a mgr/supervisor so I can discuss (no Mgr to call or speak to I was told), since the rep that was there said she it was expedia's fault because they had an error on the site. She also said I have to pay or she will call airport police and I won't be allowed to board my flight home. I paid so I can get back to the US and dispute with Corporate, Expedia and Amex. When I tried looking for a contact # for Europcar Customer Service, there is only an email, which proved to be useless. Called Expedia and they emailed me back 5 days later that they had the same luck I did reaching Europcar, I was told if I would have paid with Expedia they would have given me a refund. But like I paid with Fox Rent A Car there was little Expedia can do to get my money back. I disputed charge with Amex, after about a month later was denied dispute by Amex as I signed for the $430 charge and the original bill didn't say unlimited miles. I told Amex that the original bill failed to say there was a limit to the amount of miles the rental came with. Long story short, use another car rental company if you don't want to get fleeced.

Very poor service in Lisbon airport

Very poor service in Lisbon airport. Members of staff more interested in going home than speaking to customers. Unexplained charges on credit cards.

Horrible customer service, no roadside assistance

Long story short we had a terrible experience with Europcar in Bergamo/Verona this summer.
We had paid extra for Roadside Assistance, who were almost impossible to get in contact with. They had a representative lie to us about already showing up to help and they eventually showed up 4 hours later than they stated they would.
Additionally, we were, in effect, without a working car for 2 out of 4 days of our prepaid rental.
The customer service following this experience was honestly worse than the experience itself. Almost 2 months after we first contacted Europcar Italy about our issues they responded to us, offering an approximately 10% refund on our prepaid amount for our troubles. We were honestly not satisfied with this, but to this day Europcar has yet to answer our follow-up. Also, we have, about 2 weeks later, still not received the mentioned refund (that they have sent an invoice about).
For now, I would not use Europcar again and cannot recommend it to anyone, especially not their optional Roadside Assistance service.

We rented a car in Portugal with Europcar

We rented a car in Portugal with Europcar because we assumed that this company operates worldwide and has a good reputation. Far from it. We cancelled the first reservation because our itinerary changed. We waited weeks for the credit note after long e-mail conversations. The customer service was just terrible. The vehicle pickup was problem-free, the return a disaster. A large board at the return explains what goes under normal wear and tear and what damage must be borne by the renter. We had a small scratch on the bumper that we didn't notice and was probably parking damage. No big deal. Probably could have even polished the scratch away. For the scratch, one has then simply once charged EUR 340. Discussions on site were not possible, because we did not want to miss our flight. Also afterwards no possibility to discuss. Therefore, for clear: Never again Europcar.
